Another day at the writing desk and working on a new short story which I do plan to send to a few small press or semi-professional magazines when it is all said and done. This one is going to be a ghost story much as the story I wrote for lulu.com was, but this one is going to be set in another part of Illinois. I like the idea of writing fictional ghost stories which are based off real places because they make the reader go and find out about the real place. The more they read behind the actual story then they would see that the fictional version of the story will be a bit more haunting in the way it is told. I wanted to show that truth is more stranger than fiction and a correspondent who told me about a haunting down in Urbana, Illinois, was the one who inspired me to play around with Urbana more as the backdrop for one part of the story then the other part of the story I plan to play around with the Maryknoll College. Though right now it is too early to tell what direction this story is going to take but I will say there is nothing erotic about this story. I never wrote erotica, and not going to start now. This story I am going to be sending around to a few small press magazines, and it will be one of the mid-length short stories I've written. When it comes to a Reality TV idea, the story will end up writing itself. Then throw a ghost story in there -- the combination of them become even more imaginative when one puts that aspect into a reality tv themed short story.
Why I use that theme to write a story -- it is because it does invoke to be a lot of fun to really create a weird story. Reality TV shows are a ten in one show in themselves. This one is going to be about as involved as the last one I wrote because of the locality -- one thing about the two stories written I wrote for the contest are those can be a lot longer given if the guidelines had a longer word count. The new story is just under 3000 words, and I think this one has some real potential for being one of the second longest short stories I've written. This one I can see being a bit longer than House of Spiders when it is done, I am trying to give this one some nice little macabre surprises in there as well. This story when it is all said and done will hit the 5000 plus word mark. I am going to be passing the story around as PDF file to a select few before I send it to the semi-professional markets.

I never really thought about it, but writing horror fiction about real places really does make it more haunting. Good luck with that.

Thanx, especially when you know the back story about the haunted place. You should see the one I wrote on my other journal. I will email the link your way. I also write true ghost stories as well which isn't too far off from what I do already.
